Everyone has a story.....

This is it! My long awaited “launch” on Linkedin! I’ve been procrastinating for a long time – the reason? (And don’t shoot me!) I just have to say it, put it out there….


I…. HATE…. SOCIAL…. MEDIA.


Hopefully Linkedin won’t cull me for that admission and maybe I should clarify. It’s not actually social media I hate – it’s the concept of “Content” the pressure to “Keep up” to “Get visible” I’ve thought long and hard as to why this is and have finally figured it out…..


It may be because I’m a dinosaur or because I spent my career WITH people. Talking to people… finding, leading, engaging, supporting and developing hospitality people, not honing marketing skills. I don’t want to be famous or have a million likes, or “trend” but I do want to get myself out there so I can do more of the things I love….


I am honest and direct (with an added measure of tact and diplomacy) and I LOVE people. I love to meet people and engage. For that reason, I guess I like Social Media. The fact that I can keep in touch with the young Aussie waiters I recruited for their gap year of fun in the UK. I can congratulate the many Chefs I supported that went onto participate in and (some) win MasterChef. I can follow the career of the very young, nervous receptionist that I took a chance on that is now a very well respected General Manager. I love the fact that I can connect with like-minded people from all over the world, and engage with their “Content” I guess I just hate the idea of writing “Content”


So, after much soul searching, and (as ever) being true to myself, I’ve figured it out….


I have no idea if its “Right or wrong” and the best way or not, but it’s my way and therefore authentic and real and from the heart – which is at my very core what it’s all about. Connecting hearts and minds.


“Ready, Willing & Able – Tales of Hospitality HR” is born.


I’m sure I’m a bit late on the “Blogging train” but what can I say? I got there in the end. I really am passionate about people and hospitality and writing about things I’ve learned along the way seemed to be a good way to get over my “Content Fear” My experiences and thoughts may resonate with those interested. I will even throw in some facts and useful tips too! I’d love it if you gave them a read, but failing that, just think of me for your outsourced people needs!


So, for me, it’s the end of an era – one filled with “How to Tweet” webinars and “Marketing made simple” courses. I understand that I’ve made every mistake known to (wo)man with my business Instagram page and maybe one day can look back on these days and laugh! The irony is not lost on me that I chose to launch on the day that we find out how the hospitality sector faces a massive seasonal challenge.


But, for now, I’m re-energised and off to “Surge Ahead” with some more Tales of Hospitality HR. The first tale, coming soon to a Linkedin page near you……..


I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on “Content” even if just to see I’m not alone (and to know if anyone actually read to the end…..)
